GMDAT Head Arrives In Uzbekistan, Meets President, Learns Opportunities

On May 1 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received the President of the “General Motors - DAEWOO Auto and Technology” (‘GMDAT’) company Michael Grimaldi at the Oksaroy Residence in Tashkent, the local papers reported.

“Your visit to Uzbekistan gives a good opportunity to directly acquaint with the automobile building industry of our country and exchange views o­n the issues of mutual cooperation”, - the Uzbek leader has said.

The “GMDAT” has been founded in 2002 as a result of procuring by the “General Motors” Corporation the factories of the “DAEWOO Motors” South Korean Company, which actively participated in establishing the new sphere of the car making in Uzbekistan. The “UzDaewooAuto” Joint-Stock Company has been established in cooperation with the South Korean partners in the city of Asaka of the Andijan Province. Since 1996 the factory annually has been producing tens of thousands of automobiles of various models.

The “GMDAT” Company is now continuing cooperation with many foreign partners of the “DAEWOO Motors”. Its production is established nearly in 150 countries all over the world. In 2006 the company has been recognized as the most rapidly developing automobile making company in South Korea.

During the meeting at the Oksaroy Residence Michael Grimaldi said that the “GMDAT” Company is interested in further expanding the cooperation with the Uzbek partners. He thanked President Islam Karimov for the warm welcome.

During the talks the issues o­n further expanding cooperation between the “UzDaewooAuto” and “GMDAT”, elaboration and implementation of new the joint projects have also been discussed, the reports said.
