President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov started his visit to Singapore on 24 January. He will hold talks with the President of Singapore and also with other high level officials.

Uzbekistan intends to attract US$1.3 billion in investments in the oil- and gas-chemical industry of the country in Singapore, President Karimov told media before leaving for a three-day state visit.

"It is expected to attract US$1 billion in investments for the expansion of diesel fuel production and US$300 million to double the capacity of polyethylene production at Uzbekistan’s Shurtan Gas-Chemical Complex," he said.

Uzbekistan and Singapore "are working on more than 20 large scale joint projects in the sphere of economy, oil and gas, and light industry", President said.

He also said that during the meetings with the administration of the partner country they would discuss "the issues regarding expansion of cooperation and the urgent issues of international nature of mutual interest to the parties".

A number of bilateral documents will be signed during the visit. Among them Joint Communiqué of the Heads of States, agreements on economic and humanitarian cooperation, on establishing air communication as well as bilateral documents in the fields of commerce and industry, standardization and metrology and others.
