OSCE Chairman-in-Office holds talks in Uzbekistan
President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received in his residence on 12 April Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Foreign Minister of Spain Mr. Miguel Angel Moratinos.
The two sides exchanges with views on the current state and perspectives of relations between Uzbekistan and the OSCE.
Miguel Angel Moratinos noted that Central Asia occupied a particular place in the Organization’s activities. Stable and efficient management coupled with healthy economy and developed civil society in Uzbekistan are key factors to ensuring security and the Eurasian and Transatlantic regions, he said.
Spanish Foreign Minister also met Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis (Parliament) Erkin Halilov.
The head of the OSCE familiarized with the parliamentary reforms and the activity of the parliament of Uzbekistan. During the negotiations, the sides discussed expansion of relations between the Oliy Majlis and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, as well as Uzbek and Spanish parliaments.
Miguel Angel Moratinos had also meeting with Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov during which the tow sides discussed issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, as well as relations between Uzbekistan and Spain.
This is the first visit of Miguel Angel Moratinos as the Head of OSCE to Uzbekistan.
