Uzbek Textile Exports Equaled Over USD 400 m In 2007

In 2007 Uzbekistan exported the textile products worth US$ 401 million. The net share of the finished products in the total volume of exports rose by 20 percent, the news service of State Joint-Stock Company “Uzbekengilsanoat” has been quoted by Press-uz.info News Agency.

According to the company’s news service, in 2007 thanks to the newly launched production capacities the industrial produce worth UZS 655,9 billion were manufactured in the country. The growth rate has made up 153 percent.

The production of public consumer goods increased by 102,5 percent. The Programs on modernizing and technically reequipping the enterprises of textile industry for 2006-2008, which included 66 projects, have been continued, according to the news agency.

“Last year the number of textile companies has increased. 23 new enterprises were launched. They have provided the people with 10 000 jobs. Over US$ 87 million of foreign capital has been assimilated by local entrepreneurs. Many companies with participation of investors from Germany, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, Russia, India, the U.S., Great Britain and other countries are now operating in Uzbekistan”, - the representative of the news service has been quoted as to have said.

At the moment, the textile companies of Uzbekistan are capable to process and produce 380 000 tons of cotton fiber, over 300 000 tons of yarn, 336,8 million meters of cotton fabric, 170 million units of knit-wear and eight million pairs of hosiery, in keeping with the report.

“The first International Textile Fair held last year in Uzbekistan gave an impetus to expand the geography of exports, develop the long-lasting cooperation with the leading producing and trading companies of the world. The fair saw the signing of contracts worth US$ 306 million”, - the news service representative has been quoted as to have added.

Also, according to the company news service, in 2008 the company intends to commission 20 more new facilities with a total volume of investments worth US$ 119,4 million.
