Peoples Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Nominates Asliddin Rustamov as Candidate to Run for Presidency
VI Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) took place in Tashkent on November 5, 2007. The Convention delegates decided to nominate the head of the PDPU group in the Legislative Chamber, Oliy Majlis - the lower house of the Uzbek parliament and vice-speaker, Mr. Asliddin Rustamov to run for presidency.
The Chairman, Central Council, PDPU, Mr. Latif Gulamov delivered a speech to the delegates of the Convention on political and organizational tasks to be carried out by PDPU during the presidential election campaign in 2007.
He said that elections are a true mirror of democracy. From this point of view the presidential election campaign should clearly demonstrate to the world community the consistent advance of Uzbekistan on the way of democracy.
"PDPU central bodies and local organizations need to use an arsenal of these means (meetings with voters and media appearances of the candidate from the party etc.) first of all for propagating program goals of the party among the electorate to the full extent.", said Mr. L.Gulamov.
Then the delegates discussed and approved a speech by Mr. A.Rustamov on PDPU main program theses for running president in the forthcoming elections.
The convention considered another issues concerning the activity of the party.
