Report by Information Agency “Jahon”

Public of Uzbekistan has received with resentment the comments by Pope Benedict XVI concerning Islam and Prophet Muhammad, made on September 12 this year at Regensburg University in Germany.

Such reckless and irresponsible declarations may not only harm the mutual understanding between East and West, but also create grave precedents of escalation of an interfaith standoff and extremist acts throughout the world.

One of the most renowned authorities of Islamic world, our ancestor Imam al-Bukhary once wrote in one of his hadeeths: “the powerful is the one, who is able to contain oneself in a burst of anger”.

Guided by a fundamental idea that only mutual respect and mutual understanding between religions and nations, nourishing in people the sense of kindness and peace may save the contemporary world. Public of Uzbekistan expresses hope that Pontiff Benedict XVI will do all the necessary to clarify the situation and exclude such facts in the future.
