Samarkand & Marghilan Jubilees are celebrated at UNESCO headquarters in Paris

The events dedicated to the 2750th anniversary of Samarkand and 2000th anniversary of Marghilan will be held on May 23 this year at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The Uzbek delegation led by the Minister for culture and sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Rustam Kurbanov will participate at the events.

The same day the international scientific conference entitled “The role of the cities of Samarkand and Marghilan in the history of world civilization”, where the prominent Uzbek and European scholars will take part, is due at the UNESCO headquarters.

The head of the department of the Institute of Archeology at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, B.Matbabaev, Ph.D., will speak on “The archeology of Samarkand and Marghilan”.

The director of the State Museum of Uzbekistan’s History, Dr.of History, Prof. J.Ismailova will present the report on “The great statesmen and scholars of Samarkand and Marghilan”.

The chief research fellow at the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan, Dr.of Arts Studies, K.Akilova is expected to speak on the topic “Samarkand and Marghilan as unique centers of the Oriental arts”.

Besides, the video films on the two countries will be demonstrated to participants of the conference.

Within the framework of the Uzbek delegation’s visit to the UNESCO Headquarters, the organization’s Director General K.Matsuura will receive it.

The same day the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the jubilees of the cities of Samarkand and Marghilan will be held there. Banners with the photos reflecting the monuments of architecture and the present day of the two cities, works of textile and national applied arts will be displayed at the exhibition.
