Legalization

Depending on the place of residence applicants should submit their documents either to Uzbekistan Consulate General in New York or to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C. To learn to which office you have to apply, click here.

The Republic of Uzbekistan is not a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961. Therefore, all documents originated in the United States and intended for use in Uzbekistan are subject to the legalization at a consular office of Uzbekistan in the United States.

The following information describes the order of processing documents before submitting them to the Consulate General:
  • Notarizing before a notary public;
  • Attesting by a county clerk (public documents and court records are certified by the custodial of those records);
  • Certifying at the office of the Secretary of the State in which the document is recorded;
  • Certifying by the U.S. Department of State Authentications office (518 23rd Street, N.W. State Annex 1 Washington, D.C. 20520, tel. : 202-647-5002).
Documents, which have not been processed as indicated above, will not be accepted by the Consulate General.

The documents are submitted for legalization during business hours.

If you wish to send documents for processing by mail, please, enclose a self-addressed paid return envelope. In case the matter of safety and delivery accuracy of the documents is important for you, it is advised to use one of the following postage services: FedEx, Priority and Express Mail. Using other envelopes can delay the correspondence from the Consulate General. Please be advised that the Consulate does not send documents via U.S. Certified Mail, U.S. Registered Mail, DHL, Airborne Express and PuroLetter of Canada.
